Earthdogs versus the Extraterrestrials!

There may not be extraterrestrials, but there are Earthdogs. Earthdogs AKA dachshunds and terriers do exist and even have their own American Kennel Club (“AKC”) and American Working Terrier Association (“AWTA”) endorsed sport – the Earthdog Trials, also known by the AWTA as Go-To-Ground Trials.

Dachshunds are a member of the hound family. The breed was originally developed to scent, chase and flush badgers and other burrow dwelling animals out into the open. With their short legs and elongated bodies they are perfectly suited to chasing their prey through long narrow tunnels. The Terrier group incorporates a number of different dog breeds that were initially bred for hunting and killing vermin both above and below ground.
