Despite popular belief, the Miniature Pinscher is not a relative of the Doberman Pinscher. It is believed that it is actually a mix of the Dachshund and Italian Greyhound. This breed originated in Germany where its resemblance to a red deer called the “Reh” earned it the name “Reh Pinscher”. This is a very curious, lively and spirited breed that display’s puppy-like qualities well into adulthood. The Miniature Pinscher is not the best dog for a family with children. It can get along with older, more considerate children; however can get defensive if mistreated by younger children. With toy breeds it is always important to supervise them around children to ensure the children are not harming them. This breed should be well socialized from a young age. If they receive proper socialization they can get along well with other dogs. Be cautious when introducing a Miniature Pinscher to a dog it does not know because they can try to be dominant, which can turn into a dangerous situation if they attempt to show dominance over a larger and stronger breed! The Miniature Pinscher is naturally a stubborn breed, making training slightly difficult. They are, however, quite intelligent, so once you do train them something, they will not likely forget it. The Miniature Pinscher does not require extensive grooming. They only require brushing once in a while and should be bathed only when needed to avoid drying out their skin. Their nails should be trimmed regularly (every two weeks)

Our dogs love to run around our property, however sometimes they come home with cuts and abrasions. It made us wonder what we would do if something more serious happened.
